PLAY-OFF PREVIEW | Dons v Barrow Raiders

The Dons’ Betfred Championship play-off campaign begins with the hosting of Barrow Raiders at Club Doncaster Sports Village on Sunday 6 September (3pm KO).

When the two teams last met, Connor Robinson’s late kick secured his side a dramatic 26-25 victory at the Speed Competitions Stadium, and the aim is to now secure a similar result to progress in the knockout stages.

Barrow wrapped up their regular season with a 42-20 win over Whitehaven, whilst Dons secured another win over a local rival, after overcoming Sheffield Eagles, this time securing a 30-16 triumph away at Goole Vikings.

Speaking about the Goole victory, Horne said: “I am just happy we got through it unscathed. It was one of those games that allowed some players who have been out of the team to get a run out ahead of the play-offs.

“Everyone did what they needed to do. I thought it was a bit of a scrappy contest, but it was good to secure another win.”

On the upcoming play-off clash with Barrow, he added: “I am expecting a really physical game. Both times we have played them this season have been tight.

“We want to go as far as possible now and be at our best throughout. Our performances at the back end of the season have been great, and we have made a lot of progression.

“Everyone is looking forward to the game, and we are preparing for another battle.”

Luke Briscoe has made an important impact this season, and he is also looking forward to seeing how his side get on over the next month.

“We managed to get where we wanted to be in the top four, and the play-offs are the games you want to play in.

“The aim is to improve every week, and we will be at our best to try and secure a strong finish.”

On his personal highlight of the regular season, Briscoe said: “The boys bonding together and coming through the last few weeks. We have played three games recently and won them all.

“It has just shown how well we can stick together and what a tight group we are.”
